Located on the southern coast of the Isle of Arran, Lagg Whisky officially opened in 2019 as a dedicated peated whisky distillery.
It was created as the smoky counterpart to its sister distillery, Arran, which is known for producing lighter, fruit-forward island whiskies at Lochranza in the north of Arran.
While Arran whiskies are often associated with orchard fruit, honey and coastal freshness, Lagg takes a very different direction, focusing on a heavier “west coast” style built around peat smoke, earthy character and richer texture.
The style is inspired by older whisky-making traditions once associated with the south of Arran before whisky production disappeared from the area for many years.
Single & Available is the official distributor for Lagg Whisky in Malaysia, and the range available includes:
- Lagg Kilmory Peated (46% ABV, RM310) - the most approachable expression and core style of the distillery; expect a balance of gentle peat smoke with vanilla sweetness, citrus lift and a light coastal edge from bourbon cask maturation.
- Lagg Corriecravie Peated Sherry Cask Finish (55% ABV, RM433) - a richer, more layered take to the Kilmory, maturing in bourbon barrels before a 6-month Oloroso sherry finish that adds darker fruit, cocoa, smoked nuts and a deeper, warming smoke character.
- Lagg Inaugural Release Batch 1 - Bourbon Barrels (50% ABV, RM770, 10k bottles) - the first official release from the distillery, fully matured in bourbon barrels for 36 months, with a profile of vanilla, citrus zest, toasted oak and evolving bonfire smoke.
- Lagg Inaugural Release Batch 2 - Oloroso Firkins (50% ABV, RM690, 10k bottles) - bourbon matured for 30 months then a 6-month finished in small Oloroso sherry casks, for a softer, rounder profile with raisins, dark chocolate, spice and gentle smoke.
- Lagg Inaugural Release Batch 3 - Rioja Red Wine Firkins (50% ABV, RM690, 10k bottles) -bourbon matured 30 months before a 6-month red wine cask finish, adding a fruitier edge with stewed berries, cherries, oak spice and subtle tannin over a soft smoky base.
